Music and Environment

I am the current co-chair of the American Musicological Society’s Ecocriticism Study Group and I have presented papers at a number of the Ecomusicologies conferences in the United States. Along with Dr. Jessica Holmes and Dr. Anabel Maler, I co-organized an interdisciplinary panel on Music, Disability, Environment, and Activism at the 2018 AMS/SMT conference in San Antonio, TX, which can be viewed here.

My work in this area ranges from explorations of place-based musical expression in New England to the spatial and site-specific works of composer John Luther Adams, whose music often engages with environmental or environmentalist themes.
